Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO 27 Review: This Budget All-in-One ...
While it's a good budget-friendly home office option, and its extra screen space is welcomed, the low-resolution panel makes it much less attractive.
Pixelated images and fuzzy text on 27-inch, 1080p display The reason you might want the Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO 27 is simple: You are looking for an all-in-one Windows PC with the biggest display and at the lowest price. The Lenovo costs hundreds less than the Apple iMac M4 and is even a bit cheaper than Dell's discounted Inspiron 24 All-in-One 5430 . And, with a 27-inch display, it provides a bigger screen than the 24-inch display you get with either the iMac or Inspiron. But the desktop's value gets fuzzy from there, because the display's 1080p resolution is no greater than the smaller Inspiron 24 All-in-One, which I found insufficient for a 24-inch panel. On the IdeaCentre AIO 27, the screen-door effect is in full effect with pixelated images and fuzzy text evident and unavoidable. It's the antithesis of the sharp images and crisp text you get with the iMac's 4,480x2,520-pixel Retina display. But, if your goal is an all-in-one with a display larger than the iMac or Inspiron 24 All-in-One, the IdeaCentre AIO 27 serves up just that for a price of less than $800. Lenovo sells a handful of IdeaCentre AIO models on its site. They are all fixed configurations based on either a 24-inch or 27-inch touch display with a 1,920x1,080-pixel resolution powered by either a 13th-gen Intel Core CPU or AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPU. Our test system is an AMD model, but you won't find it listed on Lenovo's site. It features an AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS CPU, 16GB of RAM, AMD Radeon 660M graphics and a 512GB solid-state drive. This exact configuration is available at Walmart for $790 . The closest model to it at Lenovo is a Best Buy exclusive for $800 that offers the same specs but with only 8GB of memory. Our model at Walmart with twice the RAM for $10 less is the better option of the two. The Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO 27 starts at £800 in the UK and AU$1,179 in Australia . The AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS is a six-core mobile processor nearing its second birthday.
Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO 27 Review
Lenovo's big-screen IdeaCentre AIO 27 is a thrifty all-in-one desktop that desperately needs a higher-resolution display and a better webcam.
The 31.5-inch Lenovo Yoga AIO 9i is an Editors' Choice award winner among all-in-one desktop PCs (disclosure: this reviewer bought one), but it costs well more than $1,000. If your budget falls somewhat south, Lenovo sells the IdeaCentre AIO 27 ($849.99 as tested), a capable if not colossal homework and web surfing station with one major flaw: We're on record that full HD (1,920-by-1,080-pixel) resolution is too fuzzy for a 24-inch desktop, so it's definitely subpar for a 27-inch screen. If you can't afford the Yoga AIO, we recommend a 24-inch system, like the HP Envy Move or the pricier Apple iMac M3. The IdeaCentre AIO 27 is available in AMD and Intel flavors. Our test unit (model F0HQ001EUS), $849.99 at Lenovo.com or Newegg, features a six-core AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS processor with Radeon 660M integrated graphics, 16GB of memory, a 512GB NVMe solid-state drive, and a 1080p IPS touch screen with a 100Hz refresh rate. An extra $120 lets you upgrade to a Ryzen 7 7735HS with improved Radeon 680M graphics and a 1TB SSD, but AMD units aren't available with the sharper 2,560-by-1,440-pixel screen of upscale Intel configurations. (The $1,049.99 flagship has a Core i7-13620H CPU.) Even that panel is strictly economy class next to the 4,480-by-2,520 Retina display found in the 23.5-inch Apple iMac M3 (starts at $1,299). Clad in dark Luna Gray plastic, the IdeaCentre has a 7.6-by-8.5-inch base from which a corrugated border-wall pillar rises to hold the screen. You won't find any height adjustment or pivot to portrait mode, but you get 20 degrees of tilt (-5 to +15). The system stands 19 inches high and 24.1 inches wide. The left side of the pillar (not the display) has a USB 3.2 Type-C port and an audio jack; the right edge holds the power button and a sliding shutter switch for the webcam. The back of the pillar has more ports: HDMI-in to use the screen with a game console, a Gigabit Ethernet jack, two retro USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.
